Erwin XL medium is the logical link between the special variants of our 3-meter model. The medium is suitable for almost all conditions on the slope and in the plane.

In addition to the robust slope version and the ultralight version Erwin XL medium impresses mainly by its large spectrum of use. The model shows its power both in light thermals as well as at strong wind on the slope. Erwin XL medium is also available as electric version.

Details:

WING:
Since June 2018 our Erwin XL is delivered with a new design.

Upper side with paint and graphic in visible carbon,
underside in visible carbon with white bars (photo of Erwin XL slope).

The shell of the wing is produced as a sandwich construction. As outer skin we use 80g IM Spread-Tow carbon fibre. Upper sides are painted, undersides left in visible carbon.

The wingtips were optimized for good-natured flying characteristics despite high wingload.

All rudders are mounted with kevlar.
Rudder gap is closed on wing and V-tail.
Carbon covers for servos are enclosed in the kit.
FUSELAGE:
The fuselage is a carbon-/glass-construction using IM-Spread-Tow carbon.  
The radio is placed on the servo tray inside the fuselage cone.
The fuselage cone is manufactured in kevlar or glass to ensure good receipt of 2,4GHz.
The servos for controlling the V-tail are situated in the fuselage ...
... and hinged with bowden cables.
Hook for winch start:
Erwin XL medium can also be used for flying in the plain with all usual starting methods.
The wing is pushed onto the fuselage from the side. For electrical connection a plug is let into the root rib.
The model is also available as electric version.
Engine, controller and battery are placed in the fuselage cone then.
The receiver is located between the wings behind the connector.
V-TAIL:
The V-tail ist also built with sandwich-shell. The outer skin is made of 39g carbon fibre. Upper side is painted, underside left in visible carbon.

The tail is removable.
The V-tail is manufactured in one part.
Holes and threads for mounting the v-tail on the fuselage are pre-fabricated.

In the electric version the servos for elevator and rudder can be installed in the V-tail. By this means you can save weight, as you need no or only little lead when adjusting the centre of gravity.

  • CFK, a.o. IM-Spread Tow carbon / glass for 2,4GHz

  • Shell made of airex as supporting material and 80g IM-Spread carbon fabric as outer skin
  • Spar booms made of carbon / shear web made of balsa planked with carbon / aileron-torsions webs made of balsa planked with carbon
Stabilizer:
  • Shell made of rohacell as supporting material and 39g carbon fabric
  • Spar booms made of carbon / shear web made of balsa planked with glass

Pre-fabrication:

 

  • All rudders are cut and mounted with kevlar
  • Gap sealing of control surfaces with adhesive
  • Openings for the servos are pre-fabricated, covers are enclosed
  • Mounting of wing halves is pre-fabricated
  • Assembly of the fuselage is easy due to the fitting
  • Strengthening inside fuselage for hook is pre-fabricated
  • Openings in fuselage are cut, mounting of V-tail is pre-fabricated
  • Kitparts (radio board, pushrods, levers, ballast etc.) are included in kit
